France Budget Deficit Widens in January-June
France's government budget deficit rose to EUR 116.2 billion in January-June 2023, the highest since December 2022, from EUR 76.1 billion in the corresponding month of the previous year. Government revenues declined by 7% to EUR 164.3 billion, while expenditures went up by 9.5% to EUR 260.7 billion. Moreover, the Treasury special accounts, which track the balance of inflows and outflows of targeted revenues and outlays, for example receipts from local government, recorded a shortfall of 19.8 billion from EUR 14.8 billion in the same period a year ago.

France’s government budget deficit increased to EUR 107.2 billion in January-May 2023 from EUR 82.3 billion in the corresponding month of the previous year. Government revenues declined by 5 percent to EUR 128.8 billion, while expenditures climbed by 9.1 percent to EUR 216.5 billion. Additionally, the Treasury special accounts, which track the balance of inflows and outflows of targeted revenues and outlays, for example receipts from local government, recorded a shortfall of EUR 19.5 billion from EUR 19.4 billion in the same period a year ago.

France’s government budget deficit widened to EUR 83.7 billion in January-April 2023, the highest since December 2022, from EUR 67.3 billion in the same period of the previous year. Government expenditures grew 8.5 percent to EUR 16.8 billion, while revenues slumped 4.3 percent to EUR 99.5 billion. At the same time, the Treasury special accounts, which track the balance of inflows and outflows of targeted revenues and outlays, for example receipts from local government, registered a deficit of EUR 14.9 billion from EUR 16.3 billion.
