Household spending in France unexpectedly contracted to 1% from a month earlier in April 2023, following a 0.8% fall in the previous month, and compared with market expectations of 0.3% growth. The decline was mainly due to the downturn of energy consumption (-1.9% vs 0.3% in March). On the other hand, manufactured goods rebounded (0.1% vs -1.2%), while food consumption fell softer (-1.8% vs -2.4%).
