The S&P Global France Services PMI dropped to 46.7 in August 2023 from 47.1 in July, missing the market forecasts of 47.5 and staying contractionary for the third successive period, preliminary estimates showed. It was also the weakest reading in two-and-a-half years, with new orders declining for a fourth month due to poor customer demand, especially from abroad. Meanwhile, the rate of job creation slowed to a two-and-a-half-year bottom, and the orders pending completion fell for the second time in the past three months. Service providers saw a rise in both input and output prices as increased wages pushed up operating costs. Lastly, growth expectations cooled but were still stronger than June’s 32-month low. source: Markit Economics
