Brazilian Producer Prices Decline Further
Producer prices in Brazil fell by 2.72% month-over-month in June of 2023, easing from the 3.07% decline in the previous month but well above market expectations of a 1.81% drop, backing recent market bets that the central bank is set to start its cutting cycle. The decline was the sharpest, albeit slightly slower, for intermediate goods (-3.41% vs -4.34% in May) and consumer goods (-2.02% vs -1.05%), while deflation picked up for capital goods (-1.09% vs -0.66%). Yearly, producer prices declined by 12.37% in the period, the most on record.

Brazil Producer Prices Fall the Most on Record
Producer prices in Brazil slumped by 3.07% month-over-month in May of 2023, after a 0.35% fall in the prior month and far more than market expectations of a 0.51% drop. It marks the fourth consecutive month of producer deflation and the most pronounced since available records began in 2014, mainly due to lower prices of intermediate goods (-4.51% vs -1.24%). Additional downward pressure came from consumer goods (-1.32% vs 1.01%), of which semi-durable and non-durable goods (-1.61% vs 1.20%); and capital goods (-0.75% vs -0.09%). Yearly, producer prices plunged by 9.20% in May, the most on record, after a 4.63% decline in the prior month.
