The Brazilian economy created 157.2 thousand formal jobs in June of 2023, below market expectations of 164.5 thousand but picking up from the 155.3 thousand in the previous month, halting three periods of monthly declines and extending the period of tightness in the Brazilian labor market. Job creation was noted in all key sectors of the economy, led by a 76,420 net increase for the services sector. Still, the data showed that salaries fell for newly created jobs, totaling BRL 2015.

Brazilian Economy Adds Fewer Jobs than Expected
The Brazilian economy created 155.3 thousand formal jobs in May of 2023, missing market expectations of 194.3 thousand, after a 180 thousand rise in April. It was the third consecutive month of slowing job growth, reflecting the impact of tight monetary policy on businesses. All five activity groups surveyed ended the month with positive results, once again led by the dominant services sector (+83,915), The average monthly salary for newly created jobs declined by 0.9% compared to the previous month, amounting to BRL 2,005. A year ago, about 277,7 positions had been created.
