Italy’s jobless rate fell to 7.4% in June 2023, less than market expectations of 7.7% and the lowest since April 2009, retreating from the 7.5% in the previous month. The figure aligned with a continuously tight labor force in the Eurozone, adding leeway for the European Central Bank to extend its tightening campaign. The number of unemployed individuals fell by 44 thousand to 1.867 million in the period, the sharpest decline since January 2022. Meanwhile, that of employed individuals increased by 82 thousand to 23.590 million. The labor force participation also edged up to 66.5% in June from the revised 66.4% in May.
