The number of foreign tourist arrivals in Spain increased by 17.6% year-on-year to 8.2 million in May 2023. Arrivals rose mostly from the United Kingdom (10.4% to 1.8 million), France (24.1% to 1.2 million) and Germany (8.7% to 1.1 million). Among other countries, the annual growth was particularly noteworthy in tourists coming from the United States (38.8%), Portugal (26.2%) and Belgium (19.6%). The Illes Balears was the most visited autonomous region (21.9% of total arrivals), followed by Catalonia (21.8%) and Andalusia (14.7%). In the first five months of the year, tourist visits went up 27.9% to 29.2 million, compared to the same period last year.

Spain Foreign Tourist Arrivals Reach Pre-Pandemic Levels
The number of foreign tourist arrivals in Spain rose by 30.1% year-on-year to 5.3 million in March 2023, the highest figure for that month since 2019. The main countries of origin were the UK (with almost 1.1 million tourists and an annual increase of 29.4%), Germany (673,584, up 10.7%) and France (613,323, up 34.1%). Among the other countries of residence, the annual growth was particularly noteworthy in tourists coming from US (up 74.1%), Portugal (up 51.1%) and Italy (up 35.0%). The Canary Islands was the most visited autonomous region (24.7% of total arrivals), followed by Catalonia (19.5%) and Andalusia (15.3%).
