Spain Consumer Confidence
In Spain, the Consumer Confidence survey is made by phone and covers 1,000 individuals aged over 16 who are representative of Spanish society as a whole. The questionnaire focuses on current economic and financial situation, savings intention as well as on expected developments regarding general and personal economic situation and major purchases of durable goods. The index shows the difference between the percentage share of persons that are optimistic and the percentage of persons that are pessimistic. The index measures consumer confidence on a scale of 0 to 200, where 0 indicates extreme lack of confidence, 100 neutrality and 200 extreme confidence.

The consumer confidence indicator in Spain jumped to 81.5 in May of 2023 from 73 in the previous month, the highest since the start of the Russian invasion of Ukraine in February of 2022 to challenge a series of gloomy economic data in the Eurozone. The subindex measuring current conditions for the Spanish consumer rose by 8.7 points from the previous month to 71.5, while that measuring future expectations jumped by 8.4 points to 91.5.

Spain Consumer Morale Edges Up to 3-Month High
The consumer confidence indicator for Spain rose to 73 in April 2023 from 67.4 in the previous month, the highest in three months and compared to market expectations of 78.9. Both future expectations (83.1 vs 80.1 in March) and current conditions (62.8 vs 54.8) improved. A year earlier, consumer morale was lower at 55.5.
