Spain Factory Activity Shrinks for 2nd Month
Industrial production in Spain edged down 0.1% year-on-year in May 2023, after an upwardly revised 1% drop in the previous month and compared with market forecasts of a 0.5% fall. This was the second consecutive month of shrinking industrial activity, largely reflecting declines in durable consumer goods (-5.6%), energy (-5.1%) and intermediate goods output (-5%). By contrast, production increased for capital goods (+7%) and non-durable consumer goods (+2.3%). On a seasonally adjusted monthly basis, industrial output rose by 0.6% in May, following an upwardly revised 1.9% slump in the prior month.

Spain Industrial Output Unexpectedly Falls in April
Industrial production in Spain decreased 0.9% year-on-year in April 2023, after a downwardly revised 4.1% increase in the previous month and compared with market forecasts of a 1.5% rise. It was the first decline in industrial activity since November last year, as output fell for energy (-1.5% vs 1.2%), consumer goods (-1.8% vs 4.1%), and intermediate goods (-4.3% vs 4.5%). Also, production of capital goods eased (3.2% vs 12.4%). On a seasonally adjusted monthly basis, industrial output went down 1.8%, the most since March 2022.
