US Wages Rise Faster Than Expected
The average hourly earnings for all employees on US private nonfarm payrolls rose by 14 cents, or 0.4%, to $33.74 in July 2023, the same pace as in the prior month and slightly above market forecasts of a 0.3% increase. In July, average hourly earnings of private-sector production and nonsupervisory employees rose by 13 cents, or 0.5%, to $28.96. Over the past 12 months, average hourly earnings have increased by 4.4% in July, matching June's advance and surpassing market expectations of a 4.2% gain.
