New orders for manufactured goods in the US increased by 2.3% from the previous month to $592 million in June of 2023, the most since January 2021, and extending the upwardly revised 0.4% advance from the previous month. As seen in May, transportation equipment remained the primary driver of growth as orders surged by 12% to $115.2 million, expanding from the upwardly revised 4.2% increase in the previous month due to strong demand for non-defense aircraft and parts (69.4% to $37.1 million). Growth in factory orders was also sharp for computers and electronic products (1.6% to $24.5 million), fabricated metal products (1.2% to $35.7 million), and electrical equipment, appliances, and components (1.5% to $ 14.4 million).
