Indonesia's annual inflation rate declined to a 16-month low of 3.08% in July of 2023 from 3.52% in June, compared to the market consensus of 3.1%, with food prices rising the least in 25 months (1.90% vs 2.85% in June). Prices also moderated for housing (2.03% vs 2.49%), transport (9.58% vs 10.18%), accommodation/restaurant (3.08% vs 3.27%), clothing (1.42% vs 1.47%), and furnishings (2.37% vs 2.57%). Meanwhile, education inflation accelerated (3.07% vs 2.75%). Conversely, prices of information & financials dropped further (-0.24% vs -0.23%). The inflation rate stayed within the central bank's target of 2-4% for a third consecutive month. Core inflation eased to a 16-month low of 2.43% from 2.58% in June, below forecasts of 2.5%.
