Passenger car registrations in the European Union grew 17.8% yoy to 1 million units in June 2023, marking the 11th consecutive month of increase. All the EU's largest markets grew solidly, led by Germany (24.8%), Spain (13.3%), France (11.5%), and Italy (9.1%). Meanwhile, battery electric car registrations in the EU jumped by 66.2% to 158.3 thousand units in May, accounting for 15.1% of the market. For the first half of the year, EU car registrations advanced by 17.9% from the same period in 2022 to 5.4 million units. Despite the year-on-year improvement, sales were still down by 21% compared to the same period in 2019.

Passenger car registrations in the European Union advanced 18.5% yoy to nearly 1 million units in May 2023, marking the 10th consecutive month of increase. All the EU's largest markets grew solidly, led by Italy (23.1%), Germany (19.2%), and France (14.8%). Meanwhile, battery electric car registrations in the EU surged by 70.9% to 129.8 thousand units in May, accounting for 13.8% of the market. Considering the first five months of the year, EU car registrations grew by 18% from the same period in 2022 to 4.4 million units. Despite the year-on-year improvement, sales were still down by 23% compared to the same period in 2019, when 5.7 million units were registered.
