Purchases of intermediate and other merchandise goods were down 3.4% to AUD 14.54 billion, weighed by processed industrial supplies n.e.s (-3.3%), other parts for capital goods (-0.4%), and parts for transport equipment (-7.4%). Also, imports of consumption goods tumbled 12.4% to AUD 10.86 billion, squeezed by non-industrial transport equipment (-32.6%) and consumption goods n.e.s. (-6.2%). Purchases of capital goods were 1.1% lower to AUD 8.64 billion, dented by machinery and industrial equipment (-7.1%), capital goods n.e.s. (-7.4%), and telecommunication equipment (-4.7%).
