China Forex Reserves Down to 3-Month Low
China's foreign exchange reserves fell to USD 3.177 trillion in May 2023, the lowest in three months, from USD 3.205 trillion in the prior month which was the highest since February of 2022. Figures came below forecasts of USD 3.181 trillion, amid a general dollar strenght. The yuan depreciated nearly 2.8% against the USD, while the dollar gained 2.5% against a basket of major currencies in May. At the same time, the value of the gold reserves declined to USD 132.15 billion from USD 132.35 billion.
