Mexico Consumer Confidence
In Mexico, the Consumer Confidence Index (ICC) measures the current perception and future expectations that people have about their economic situation, their family and the country in general, in respect to the purchase of consumption durables and non-durables, as well as employment, inflation and savings. The index is based on a sample of 2336 households located in the 32 major cities of the country. The ICC has a base of 100 as of January of 2003, levels above 100 indicate optimism, 100 neutrality and below 100 pessimism.

Mexico Consumer Morale Reaches 4-Year High
The consumer confidence indicator in Mexico rose for the third month to an over 4-year high of 46.2 in June of 2023 from an upwardly revised 45.3 in the previous month and significantly above market forecasts of 44.9. Sentiment improved regarding the current households' financial situation (50.5 vs 49.8 in June) and their ability to make major purchases (29.9 vs 28.6). Also, expectations for their personal situation increased (57.9 vs 56.3) as well as prospects for the country's economic situation (49.6 vs 48.8). Conversely, the perception towards the current economic situation of the country worsened (42.7 vs 43.2) amid the expected rise in prices (18.9 vs 18.5).

Mexico Consumer Morale Hits Over 1-1/2-Year High
The consumer confidence indicator in Mexico rose for the second month to an over 1-1/2-year high of 45.2 in June of 2023 from 44.5 in the previous month and above market forecasts of 44.3. Households expressed reduced pessimism regarding their personal financial situation (49.7 vs 49.2 in May), the country's economic situation (43.3 vs 41.8), savings (37.6 vs 37) and their ability to make major purchases (28.4 vs 27.4). However, expectations for their personal situation deteriorated slightly (55.9 vs 56.2) and prospects for the country's economic situation remained weak (at 48.7) amid the expected rise in prices (18.5 vs 16.7).

Mexico Consumers Less Pessimistic in May
The consumer confidence indicator in Mexico edged up to 44.4 in May of 2023 from 44.1 in the previous month, indicating consumers were slightly less pessimistic. Prospects regarding households' financial situation (56.2 vs 56.1 in April), the country's economic situation (48.4 vs 48.3), savings (37 vs 36.7) and their ability to make major purchases (27.2 vs 26.5) showed improvement. Meanwhile, consumers expressed concerns over the evolution of prices (16.7 versus 16) and employment (50.5 versus 50.9).
